Industrieel gebruik

De langere C4-alkylkoolstofketen in propyleenglycol-n-butylether (PnB) biedt meer organische oplosbaarheid vergeleken met de kortere methylzijketengroep in dipropyleenglycolmethylether (DPM). Het PnB-oplosmiddel is een betere keuze voor een coalescentieoplosmiddel dan DPM, omdat het DPM-oplosmiddel volledig in water oplosbaar is. Volledige oplosbaarheid in water beperkt de zeer belangrijke organische oplosbaarheid die nodig is voor een goede latexfilmvorming.
